Eila loves Rachel - Rachel Coleman, that is. She's been watching Baby Signing Time since she was only a few months old, and she got Rachel and the Treeschoolers for Christmas. Rachel and the Treeschoolers incorporates a preschool curriculum about weather with some great songs and the kinesthetic experience of ASL (American Sign Language).
Eila sings the lightning song over and over again: "Boom! Crash! Crack! Snap! Thunder is the sound..."
Eila has been so interested in weather, so I planned a few activities to help her investigate and learn more.
We started with a story time devoted to clouds:

Next, using the chalk from Eric Carle' s Little Cloud, Eila and I drew our own clouds:
Then, using Shaw's It Looked Like Spilled Milk as an inspiration, we spilled some milk of our own and tried to discover some cloud shapes:
We used the paper towels to soak up the milk, and then we watched it drip out - just like rain drips out from the clouds when they get too full. Last, but not least, we had a little whipped cream snack so that Eila could "eat" a cloud - yum!
